The Poetry Archive is a national, web-based library that holds recordings of poets reading their own work. With a collection comprised of thousands of poems from hundreds of poets, the national Poetry Archive came to Matrix looking for a new website to showcase this incredible resource. They needed a website that would allow people to search their vast archives and explore poetry, as well as providing a membership service and paid for feature for people who wanted to download audio files and access the wider collection.
Having already worked with the team on the Children’s Poetry Archive website, we were familiar with their service and challenges. We recognised the need to catalogue the incredible collection and range of poetry held by the Archive – both in written and audio form – as well as provide a user-friendly experience for site visitors. Given the huge amount of content, the search and exploration features were a vital part of the new website. The site also needed to have ecommerce functionality to allow for online memberships and the purchase of credits – which allowed users to download content for off-site use.
The team at the national Poetry Archive were delighted with their new website! An ecommerce membership selection allows them to manage income and allows users to curate their own collections of poetry. The easy-to-use search system makes it easy for poetry to be found if people know what they’re looking for and also allows for a seamless exploration of thousands of poems.
As part of the website build, we also established a strong brand and colour palette to carry through to their online and offline collateral.
