As the covid-19 lockdown restrictions start to ease and people begin to cautiously emerge into a ‘new normal’, digital marketing is one of the ways businesses are looking to re-engage with nervous customers and attract new ones. For some people who have been benefitting from online advertising, this means reactivating adverts or launching new advertising campaigns. For others, it could mean businesses dipping their toe into digital marketing for the first time.
If you’re thinking about getting started with digital marketing or returning to advertising after a period in lockdown, there are plenty of reasons to go online;
It’s cost-effective
In a time where people are understandably reluctant to commit too much money to marketing, advertising online can be incredibly cost-effective. Utilising pay-per-click ads means that you only pay when someone actually clicks through to your website. Plus, setting costs per clicks lets you set a limit on how much you’re willing to pay for those clicks.
It’s easily targeted
Traditional print advertising can be something of a lucky dip. Circulation figures and audience breakdowns are a vague indicator that you’re advertising in the right place. But, in reality, you have very little control over who exactly is going to see your printed advert. With digital marketing, you can control exactly who sees your adverts, as well as when and where. If you only want your advert to be seen by women between the ages of 24 and 35 who live within a 20 mile radius of your business and you only want your advert to be seen on the weekend, no problem!
It’s trackable
As well as knowing exactly who saw your advert, where, and when, one of the biggest benefits of digital marketing is that you can see exactly who clicked your advert and what they did next. Google has a whole host of free tracking tools. These allow you to see what actions people did (or didn’t!) take once they got to your website. This means you can accurately demonstrate return on your investment. It also gives you the opportunity to identify any barriers to purchase on your website. If you have enough website traffic, you can target tailored advertising to people who have shown interest in certain products.
It’s fully controllable
Your control of print advertising ends when you approve the image file. If you need to make a change or suddenly realise you had a new customer offer in place, it’s too late. With digital marketing, advert content can be changed in moments. You can pause or switch off campaigns at the touch of a button.
It engaging
Not only does digital marketing allow you to test different types of advert to see which performs best, but you can also send different adverts to different sections on your website. You don’t have to put your whole website address and hope people can find their way around it. You can send people exactly where you want them to go. There’s no need for a one size fits all approach. You can even show different adverts to different people so the content is personalised and so send adverts to specific website pages.
